The new Rooted In and Long Live Roxbury collaboration plus other beer and cannabis collusion
More and more breweries are finding cannabis inroads. The smart ones at least.
Not to say that many haven’t been supporting the community since before legalization. Still, it’s worth noting, especially ahead of this year’s monumental 4/20, when dozens of brands and brick and mortars will be partying and dropping exclusives. And that goes for beermakers too …
In Boston, Dorchester Brewing Co. is “releasing a super limited, taproom-only, incredibly tasty, unique, and interesting Terpene Pale Ale” … “using terpene extracts to bring the best of cannabis aroma to the best of craft beer—all at 4.20% ABV.” Plus Jah-N-I Roots Movement will be “playing a live set upstairs in the Hopservatory from 2-5pm.”
While at the Remnant Brewing Satellite in Cambridge, Herbwell is sponsoring “showstopping performances, audience games, special celebrations, and delicious food & drink! Featuring Tara Dikhof, Chito, and Lilly Rose Valore!”
And nearby, in Roxbury and Back Bay, Long Live Brewery and Rooted In “have teamed up to introduce Live Rooted, a terpene infused double IPA, to beer drinkers and cannabis enthusiasts in time for April 20th, the annual day for celebrating cannabis activism, consumerism and culture.” More from the partners about their collaborative project below:
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in the cannabis plant, a cousin to the humulus (hops) plant and are a great way to compliment the flavor profiles of the Live Rooted beer. When terpene flavors are added to beer, it can enhance existing flavors created by the hops.
Live Rooted is an 8% abv hazy double I.P.A brewed with Nelson Sauvin, Elani, and Simcoe hops, and is infused with terpene Fruit #9 from California’s Terpene Belt Farms and features high levels of limonene, myrcene, and β-Ocimene terpenes. The result is a terpene forward aroma and flavor – with hints of overripe pineapple, sweet berries, yuzu, orange blossom, key lime and stone fruit accents and creates a flavorful backdrop to the fruit-forward notes from the hops used in the recipe. Live Rooted does not contain any THC, the main ingredient in marijuana.
The beer is available in advance of the high holiday at Long Live Roxbury + Taproom located at 152 Hampden St in Roxbury, as well as local retailers throughout Boston including Bauer Wine and Spirits, The Wild Duck (Back Bay + Allston Locations), Union Pizza, Shanti and Trident Cafe on Newbury Street as well as via online pre orders.
With the Long Live and Rooted In teams both having roots in Roxbury, the collaboration made lots of “scents”. The teams will celebrate the release of Live Rooted from 2–6pm on Saturday, April 20th, with events at the brewery, 152 Hampden St in Roxbury, and special offers at the dispensary, 331 Newbury St in Boston’s Back Bay.
Saturday’s celebration will highlight the two businesses’ collaboration on the Live Rooted beer by bringing together interactive vendors that will include a glass-blowing demonstration, curated pop-ups and activating other local vendors. With the purchase of a Live Rooted 4-pack or a draft pour, patrons will receive a special offer at Rooted In. With proof of purchase of any Live Rooted Beer, customers will receive 20% off their purchase at Rooted In.
“We are honored to work with a local and community-driven business like Rooted In,” Jessica deBry of Long Live Roxbury said. “This was a true collaboration in sourcing the right terpenes to create a product we’re super excited to share in our taproom and select locations in the Boston area and beyond.”
Brian Keith of Rooted In added: “This is the work we set out to focus on when we started Rooted In. We are community focused and innovative, and this collaboration is a great example of how two locally owned businesses can work together on innovative projects across industries. … We couldn’t be more excited for our community activities and events on April 20th that will help bring people together in support of local businesses and entrepreneurs in Roxbury.”
