A Week For Massachusetts Cannabis Networking And Job Hunting

Including a Boston Cannabis Week Social Equity meetup

We’re always game to recognize when larger canna companies make token gestures toward the Mass communities in which they operate. Businesses licensed by the Cannabis Control Commission have to explain how they plan to contribute to their host municipalities beyond writing checks for fees or taxes, and it’s nice when they actually follow through.

At the same time, it is extra meaningful when smaller players pay it forward, and Cannalive Genetics goes above, beyond, and then some. For starters, the Holyoke-based boutique cultivator has a business model that is based on buttressing local music and arts, specifically with its current GLD LPH collab with the Boston staple STL GLD.

Earlier this year, Cannalive also launched a series of Slap House funk and disco parties. CEO Todd Dahn told Talking Joints Memo, “We will always feature DJs from either communities of color, LGBTQ communities, or women to make sure that we are giving the spotlight to people who are often ignored in these spaces.”

They also grow some of the best weed in the state, with new small batches in stores right now.

And this coming Monday, Sept. 16, Cannalive is teaming up with Boston Cannabis Week for a Social Equity meetup in Boston. Here’s the rundown:

Candidates, mentors and leaders within the Massachusetts social equity program are invited to connect, share resources, and network. Light snacks and beverages to be served. BCW gift bags to be provided to attendees. This event is free and attendees must register in advance to attend. The venue is in downtown Boston and the address will be sent after registration is completed.

They’re “putting vetted vendors from 14 verticals in a room with SE/EE companies for networking and team building,” with “one vendor per vertical from 12 different verticals including: Legal, Accounting, HVAC, Construction, Marketing Packaging, Responsible Vendor Training, Lab Services, Alarm Services, Transportation, Architecture, Photography/Videography.”

“I am very proud to partner with Boston Cannabis Week for our second Social Equity networking event,” Dahn told TJM, “and even more excited to connect top-tier, vetted vendors in the industry with our colleagues in the SE/EE Programs and the positive impact this will have on everyone’s success.”

Two days later, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, BCW will also host its annual IndustryMix. Here’s more from their team:

Boston Cannabis Week’s highly anticipated networking event returns Wednesday September 18th. Join the region’s industry executives, owners, managers and cultivators for an evening at one of Boston’s newest and most desireable venues. This event requires an RSVP for entry. We are kicking off this year’s event with the Canna Founders Pitch Competition, presented in partnership with Plain Sight and Rooted In Good.

As a bonus, “Six cannabis entrepreneurs will pitch their cannabis concepts for a chance to win a $25,000 grant.”
