Dave Tree at New Dia, G. Love at South Shore Buds dropping new preroll collaboration
That headline is no stretch. As anyone who knows and loves the past several decades of Boston music will tell you, it’s no small deal that you can catch Dave Tree and G. Love at dispensaries in Mass this weekend.
All the better, in addition to them both being beloved performers, they’re also longtime mouthpieces for marijuana, going back to when that was something you could (and sometimes did) get in trouble for smoking or advocating for. In the case of Tree, he’s even a former MassCann board member who has played the Boston Freedom Rally several times.
Tree’s “Earth Rocker” art show at New Dia
In addition to his music, Tree is an established visual artist and screenprinting guru, producing tees and posters just as punk rock as his howls. His latest solo show, Earth Rocker, is up now at the Black Walls Gallery inside New Dia, located across from Fenway Park. More from their announcement below:

“Earth Rocker” displays Dave TREE‘s creative commitment to art, music, community and nature. A long time Boston musician and artist, he brings forth a body of work decades in the making, many pieces include found objects and have been reborn, recycled and reformed into fine art. Art is not just in the eye of the beholder but also in the heart of the beholder, it’s up to the artist to present the works as art for the people to see and understand its true meaning. Once the people’s eyes are open to what art is and can be, people will see art in many forms and expressions, they will see and feel art everywhere. You are invited to see for yourself.
And yes, there is a concert to go with the art show. This Saturday, July 19, from 7 to 11pm, “Dave‘s band TREE will play live in the gallery because music is art too!” “Opening the night is Niki Louis and Get Ready, an amazing reggae/dub/rock steady band, please come early.” More info on Tree at Black Walls here and on Facebook here.
G. Love on the South Shore
And on Friday, July 18, south of Boston in Marshfield, modern blues rap phenom G. Love will be meeting fans at South Shore Buds starting at 5pm. The dispensary is billing it as a Summer Session Meet & Greet, promising an “awesome evening” and “official launch you won’t want to miss.”
Though he is a Philly native, G. Love cut his teeth on Boston’s music scene and now lives in Mass, so this is something of a homecoming encore amidst two nights of shows at the Levitate Backyard. They’re also “celebrating the launch of his signature Back Yard Burners Pre-Roll collaboration.” Who’s got the weed? With this new drop, it looks like G. does. More info here.
