NH Legalization Bill Faces Prohibitionist Senate Opposition

“Nearly three-quarters of the House voted for passage, and this was reflective of public opinion.”

As the Conway Daily Sun and other local outlets in the Granite State explain it, despite that state’s “Act relative to the legalization and regulation of cannabis” being co-sponsored by House Republican and Democrat leaders “and supported by a broad coalition of marijuana industry and civil rights and policy groups,” the bill is now facing a potential wall of prohibitionists in the state Senate, where a full vote is expected next month.

“Nearly three-quarters of the House voted for passage, and this was reflective of public opinion,” New Hampshire state Rep. David Paige Paige told the Sun. “Bottom line: Ending prohibition will make a product that is already widespread in our community safer. Prohibition is a futile enterprise and a waste of resources when any adult in Conway can drive 10 minutes over the border to Maine to purchase the product. I hope the Senate follows suit.”

Sadly, it doesn’t look like passage is a given. One ignoramus in particular, Republican Sen. President Jeb Bradley, is already pulling tired rhetoric out of the prohibition playbook.

“I think when all is said and done, it’s not going to be enacted into law,” Bradley told reporters. “In the middle of a drug crisis, I don’t think it’s a good idea to legalize more drugs.”

Okay man, whatever you say.
