The Indoor Skateboarding Competition Coming To New Día Dispensary

“A monkey-see monkey-do format challenging the competitors in the most grassroots angle of skateboarding: flatground tricks.”

People who have never been to New Día may be asking, What the hell do you mean they’re having a skate event inside of a dispensary?

But it’s true. The Fenway weed mall is massive enough to hold hundreds of bodies and then some, and has already hosted several events as well as a holiday market—all while staying open for business.

A lot of what they’ve done has already been quite original. But this coming Saturday, Jan. 27, will bring their most off-the-wall experience to date.

Not Finna, a “skateboarding lifestyle brand that highlights the grit and charm that is the east coast skate scene by combining street art, film, and anti heroes,” is “hosting a S.K.A.T.E. game on the floor of New Día—think bracket style—with some of Boston’s best in the underground skate scene.”

More from Not Finna:

S.K.A.T.E is a household competition globally recognized and celebrated within all skateboarding pockets. Like basketball’s “H.O.R.S.E.” The Game Of Skate is a monkey-see monkey-do format challenging the competitors in the most grassroots angle of skateboarding: flatground tricks.

As for the rules:

Two skaters face off head to head and throw rock, paper, scissors to decide who goes first. The first skater sets a trick, and if they land it, the opposing skater has one try to match it. If you miss the trick, you get a letter. If you land the trick, it’s your turn to set a trick now. Play goes back and forth like this until one or both players have all but the last letter, “E.” If you’re about to be eliminated, you have two tries to land the final trick – you know, because who doesn’t want to be nice like that? Once you’ve spelled out the full word, “S.K.A.T.E.,” you lose.

See you at the mall.
