Now You Can Track Where Cannabis Tax Revenue Goes In Massachusetts

From fines and fees to local, state, and excise taxes, this is where it goes and how it flows

We recently published a simple post (with an accompanying video) about where hundreds of millions of dollars in annual cannabis tax revenue goes in the Bay State. To our surprise since it is something of an insider’s topic, the reporting proved extremely popular, leading us to sense that people care about this stuff immensely.

The Cannabis Control Commission must feel the same way. Plus the agency has an interest in showing just how little of that revenue it gets to run its programs, as lawmakers on Beacon Hill consider annual appropriations.

And so with the CCC’s budget request on the table, using its own data and the Mass Budget and Policy Center’s 2025 report, Show Me the Money: Cannabis Revenue, Spending, and Equity in Massachusetts, the commission published a rather excellent new tool to help track the flow of pot revenue in the Bay State.
