At Talking Joints Memo, we mostly do journalism. We dabble in events and marketing as well, but primarily we simply gather information and disseminate it. Our function is fairly old school, even if we execute it using all the modern platforms.
But since the prohibitionists put an initiative in play that could shutter recreational dispensaries in Massachusetts, we have also taken on the role of siren. That is to say we were the first loud voice against the attempt to repeal adult-use cannabis, and we’ve been railing ever since.
Since we’re not formally activists or political organizers, our attempts to spread awareness have played out in unique ways around the state, including an event for budtenders in Worcester. The idea isn’t to preach to the crowd, but rather to let the crowd of stakeholders and consumers understand their responsibility in this battle—and to help them fight back.
Everything we’re doing boils down to people and communication, and we expect a lot of both at Thrive in Middleboro, from 1 to 4pm on Oct. 10. Along with Little Dog Delivery and MariMed, we are hosting an afternoon of music and community with a talk about social equity and the future of legal cannabis in Massachusetts.
