“It’s like your prerolls are getting a compost-friendly glow-up.”
Our thinking on companies that are trying to reduce waste is that they ought to be recognized for the effort. It’s a distinguishing trait in an oversaturated market, and maybe if people from other businesses see the potential, they will make their own attempts to cut their carbon footprints.
We’re talking about clever initiatives like Coast Cannabis taking “a significant step towards environmental sustainability” with its “chocolate bar packaging made from recycled ocean plastic.” As CEO Angela Brown said about the decision to incorporate waste into their wrappers: “We recognize the urgent need to address plastic pollution, especially within the cannabis industry, and this initiative is a proactive step towards minimizing our environmental impact.”
And now we’re seeing something comparably conscious from Happy Valley, which swapped out its well-known red preroll tubes for white ones. It’s not just a color switch though; the new containers via HumidiNaturals “are made from home-compostable materials,” and “break down completely in active microbial environments like soil or water, leaving no microplastics or harmful chemicals behind.”
In short: “These new white tubes are designed to break down in your home-compost pile.”
So basically, you can crack open another spliff without feeling bad about it, and help the planet in the process. All the composting consumer has to do is be sure to remove the joint and smoke it before burying the tube.
According to the company, last year Happy Valley produced 1.13 million 1-gram prerolls, and “this switch will seriously cut down on plastics usage.”
