Updated: Massachusetts Does 4/20 (Drops & Deals Roundup)

New store openings, product unveilings, and barnburners galore

As recently as just a few years ago, 4/20 was still essentially an underground occasion in the Bay State. Some activists gathered at Mount Michael Malta on Boston Common to honor the sorely missed Malta, better known as the King of Pot, or K.O.P. But for the most part, it was a private affair, shared with friends in living rooms and basements or in certain cases at clandestine parties mostly thrown by cannabis advocates and, naturally, dealers.

We’ve come a long way. And while a part of us wants to say that there’s too much happening on April 20 and we wish some of these businesses spaced out their deals and events so that people could experience more attractions, we’ll take what they’re offering, which is essentially a statewide smorgasbord of discounts, pop-ups, parties, and pot-themed performances.

We would apologize to any purists out there crying crocodile tears into their bubbler over the commercialization of this highest of holidays, but face it, with this much fun and flower in store, they’ll be getting in on the 4/20 action with the rest of us.

Below you’ll find our working list of drops and deals. Click here for a roundup of parties, event pop-ups, comedy shows, and celebrations of that nature. (Still have one to add? Email links and info to info@talkingjointsmemo.com.)

Canna Provisions

In addition to their parties and food offerings aplenty, the Canna Provisions team says, “While you’re at the stores on 420 for all the free tacos and BBQ, get your hands on this ‘1st Class’ product bundle of powerhouse prerolls of particular pedigree from Chemdog-grown Smash Hits cannabis” including: Da Funk, a “flavor-packed fan favorite indica-dominant Croptoberfest 2022 Cup Winning Strain”; California Raisins, a “High Times Massachusetts Cannabis Cup award-winning strain,” Chem 4, “one of the 13 original seeds that launched the Chemdog family,” and Chem D x Vintage Afghani, a “classic Chem D layers of intense fuel and rubber crossed with peppery earth and kushy-sweetness.”

CQ

This major Cali brand arrived in Massachusetts—its first expansion outside of the company’s home state—with its first carbonated drinks on the market last year, establishing a foothold with flavors like Blackberry Lemon Lime and Mandarin Dream. Leading up to 4/20, they’re introducing their new Cola and Ginger Ale potions, and we’re very much looking forward to sampling the flight.

Fine Fettle

Fine Fettle is one of our favorite purveyors of not only flower but excellent extracts as well, and it’s also one that tends to slip under the radar. If you’re near their Rowley store on 4/20, pop in for the various deals and promos they are offering, but also to meet the cultivators from their unique outdoor grow. Plus they have a Kahna pop-up starting at noon.

Greatest Hits

April 18 will mark the second store opening for the impressively stylized Greatest Hits Cannabis Co, a “music-centric brand launched in Spring 2022 with its flagship retail location in Dudley.” They’re cutting the ribbon on their new spot on Cape Road in Taunton at noon with State Rep. Carol Doherty, WEEI’s Greg Hill, and former New England Patriot Ty Law, among “other notable VIPs.”

Happy Valley

It’s no surprise that Happy Valley, a top-notch cultivator-manufacturer-retailer that’s never shy to open up its doors for special guests and events, is going “interstellar” for the big day. Their 4/20 deals and giveaways include: “out-of-this-world pricing from all over our menu”; “free coffee and food trucks throughout the day at both showroom locations;” giveaways for: Boston Calling tickets, tickets for the Wailers and Big Night Live shows, future use coupons ranging from $5 to $100. Plus extended hours and an online deals page to check out ahead of time.

High Profile X Budega

This Dorchester and Roslindale dispensary and its affiliated Cloud Cover brand are already known for selling boutique fire and gas at seriously competitive prices. Their 4/20 deals include: 1g prerolls starting at $8; 100mg edibles starting at $15; eighths starting at $25; 1g vapes starting at $45; ounces starting at $150; Cloud Cover half ounces for $90. They’re also offering special releases including a half-ounce in a keepsake stash jar and a Bundle Box with three Cloud Cover eighths, three prerolls, and some swag.

Insa

This manufacturer and dispensary is releasing a “4/20 signature dark chocolate pretzel bar,” as well as a “brand-new fruit flavored vaporizer, available for a limited time at Insa’s Massachusetts locations.” They’re also “adding new, core items available long after the cannabis holiday including two new blunts and an updated 5-pack pre-roll option,” and bringing back their spring seasonals that are “handcrafted with real fruit and quality European chocolate.” “The variety of the exclusive seasonals and 4/20 products Insa brings to the market, further demonstrates our mission to provide exciting products for all desired consumption methods,” said Insa Head Chef and Director of R&D Julian Rose said. “Our team worked to ensure all patients and consumers can celebrate 4/20 with their favorite form factor. Each delectable treat is crafted with fresh, unique ingredients that will leave you wanting more of what’s in store at Insa this spring.”

Kush Groove

The stunning long-awaited Cambridge dispensary from the team that opened a head shop of the same name in Mission Hill eons ago and built up from there finally opens on 4/20, and they’ll be partying all weekend, through West Cambridge Day on April 22 and beyond. Look for deals aplenty plus grand-opening giveaways, DJs, and pop-ups from Root & Bloom, GreenCare Collective, and more.

Levia

Do you remember how Levia let fans vote on their next flavor? Well they picked Pineapple Express, and the infused seltzer brand is dropping it this month ahead of 4/20. They report: “For this limited-edition release, LEVIA is paying homage to one of the world’s most famous strains, Pineapple Express. The new flavor is LEVIA’s first-ever terpene-infused beverage. The addition of terpenes brings out the fragrantly fruity flavors of this iconic strain, with familiar earthy notes of pine and cedar alongside signature notes of pineapple and bright citrus.”

“Whether you’re a seasoned flower connoisseur or entry-level cannabis consumer, you’ve likely heard of the famous Pineapple Express strain,” Levia Co-Founder Kristin Rogers said. “Our customers overwhelmingly voted to have Pineapple Express as our 4/20 limited-edition flavor, so we used this as an opportunity to introduce our first-ever, terpene-infused seltzer that offers customers the same fast-acting, cannabis-infused beverage they’ve come to love, but with a dialed-in flavor and aroma profile that honors the Pineapple Express strain.”

Mission

This just in: “All of 4Front Ventures’ Mission dispensaries nationwide will be hosting 420-weekend festivities from Thursday, April 20th – Sunday, April 23rd. Each store will have multiple vendor pop-ups, food, DJs, games, a photo booth, and more for an all-weekend party. Customers can expect dank promotions and surprise giveaways all weekend long including custom Cirrus x Mission glass smoking accessories. Mission has partnered with Legends to offer 3.5gs for $14.20 from 4:20p to close. ($150 minimum spend required. While supplies last.)

NETA

This behemoth seems to already have half its stores on sale, including: six cans of Levia for $30, two full-gram Apex cartridges for $60, and deals you can unlock by spending certain amounts.

Rooted In

The Newbury Street dispensary has a lot going on, including a musician meet and greet and a “baked sale” pop-up with Loud Girl Cookies Founder Carolyn Alexander.

Sanctuary Medicinals

This Brookline spot and brand has a whole “Road to 420” schedule with a Crafts & Stash event on April 15 and an artists market on April 16 with vendors including: Grrl Pickers, Steve’s Dank Pipes, Betty & Ed’s, Sugarmatty’s, Village Vinyl & Hi-Fi, and Studio TV. They’re also sponsoring the Boston metal band Bonginator’s album release bash at the Middle East Upstairs on April 21.

Temescal Wellness

Since they’re closed on April 20 for the holiday, this dispensary with stores in Pittsfield, Hudson, and Framingham will have giveaways, free swag, bundle pricing, and med sales plus loads of product drops in the two days leading up to Thursday. On April 19, their Pittsfield location will also have live artwork and brand pop-ups throughout the day.

Trulieve

On April 19, Trulieve will host “Meet the Grower Cultivar Collection” events at all of their locations with a BOGO offer on that brand (buy two 3.5g packages of whole flower and get one for $10), and on April 20 they’re offering “30% off all Cultivar Collection, Modern Flower, Sweet Talk, Muse, and Momenta Products” plus selling clones for $18.

UpTop

This Boston and Framingham dispensary’s West Roxbury location will have live music, “radio DJ setups,” and “Minuteman Kettle Corn from 5-8pm (local, women owned).” “They will also be offering 20% off the whole store (4/20 and 4/21) at both their West Roxbury and Framingham locations.” Additionally, “if you spend $70 you get a $1 pre roll and $120—you get a High Supply eighth or Rhythm vape cart for $1.”
